I’d heard of felting, but really didn’t know much about it. What a fun thing to (further) visually explore on Avi’s Instagram page (thanks for including the link). I know the point of your letters is the content, but I also always really enjoy the style of your writing here - feels like a conversation and makes so much sense to my brain.
I really appreciate your sharing about your many years long search for crafting/hobby options that could be accessible to you - and it’s wonderful to be able to see the (initial) felted result! (As it was with your origami creation.) Likewise, your explanation of how your other forms of creative expression often aren’t as grounding as needed because they are also your work was such a meaningful example of the deep thinker you are. You referenced (in this letter) the challenge that your brain often doesn’t allow you to see that your perspective has value - so I’ll take this opportunity to clearly state that I find your perspective to be something that, although I didn’t realize I was missing, has so significantly impacted my life - and my own perspectives in such positive ways - that I’d call it a treasure. (Wow, that was a long sentence and likely very grammatically incorrect but I kinda like it as it is, so not gonna change it.)
So what are you doing with these felt baubles you’ve created (the two in the photograph, I understand that you made an additional one for a friend.)? Displaying them somehow at home to enjoy? Looking at them reminded me of just how many ways we can show our pride through crafts and creative expression and that having these items to gaze at can be a needed moment to connect with and feel connected to our communities.
Very interested to see what third night of Hanukkah gift awaits me later in the form of letter #3. 😊
My dear friend, I will be back tomorrow to do this comment the justice it deserves in a reply, as it has been a long day. But, for now, I want to say a sincere thank you 💙
[Okay, that was a very far away tomorrow, for a variety of reasons; but I'm back at last. Because of the quirks of Substack, I'm not even sure you'll know I've left this longer reply, but I wanted to anyway. It means so much that this felt - pun intended - meaningful to you, and I'm thrilled the interest in felting seems to extend beyond my own brain. As for your kindness in offering reassurance about my perspective, all I can say in return is a huge thank you.
And at the moment they are nestled on a bookshelf, these two, as they weren't quite substantial enough to be secure anywhere else. But I shall let you know if anything more exciting occurs for them or any future creations.
In the meantime, thank you again for your continued stalwart support, dear friend.]
What a lovely thing to share! X
Aw thanks lovely Tilly! X
