Heart sore is such an accurate description of how I feel every moment I think about this, in my country and in yours. You are so valid, valued and valuable my friend - just as you’re reminding others in this letter. Keep going we must. That drawing might be my favorite so far, worthy of being on my phone’s lock screen in fact - cute kid, dogs and beautiful vacation photos take a back seat for now. 🫂🤍🏳️⚧️ Grateful to know you, Jessi. (Oh, and thanks for teaching me a new word. I once read that you’re someone’s favorite person to learn from - and I concur, you’re an excellent sharer of knowledge)
Oh, my friend. I send you so much love and (grateful) solidarity. Thank you. If my words and drawings resonate and can reciprocate even a little of all you offer me then I am honoured. Sincerely. If only there weren't an ocean between us preventing an actual hug for some mutual strength and regulation; please know I'm sending multiple virtual ones 🫂💙🫂💙
Thank you so much for your kindness and solidarity; in this and many other areas. I'm still digesting, definitely. This letter was inspired by a question from a dear childhood friend - 'What would feel powerful right now?' - and I realised that I needed to write and draw, so I did. I think the more detailed processing is still, well, in process...!
I also appreciated the recent discovery of transmisia (and, relatedly, homomisia [and presumably also bimisia, as someone who is bi myself]). Like you, I have wanted an alternative to "phobia" formulations, so I'm glad to help out there.
And yes, as per the brilliance of Butler, gender is performative; I just wish more people could comprehend that.
Thank you again for your generous support, and you take care too.

Hi Jessi,
I heard this news on the radio whilst out and about yesterday.
I've barely had the opportunity to digest it, let alone put language to my feelings.
I appreciate the education around transmisia, as I have always found the idea of 'transphobia' and 'homophobia' deeply problematic.
We self-identify in so many areas of our lives...why should gender identity be any different?
Thank you for finding the words.
Please be gentle with yourself in the days ahead.
Take good care,
Casey
